Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron and his staff would like to make the public aware of ongoing phone scams continuing to take place in our area. A lot about scams has been in the press lately, however, local citizens are still becoming victims of these scams. Scammers are working from a large call center and seem to be targeting the elderly population more. Scammers are claiming to be with the Federal Trade Commission. Scammers may claim you have won a large amount of money, or to receive additional Medicare benefits and other tactics then ask to be sent cash, bank checks or even money cards. In some cases, they will make arrangements to make a pickup in person before you can receive your reward. One name and phone number the scammers have used numerous times locally is a Jessie Beltran with the number 469-653-6752.
If you have an elderly family member, please check on them regularly and make sure they are not falling victim to these scammers. These scammers are very persuasive in what they are doing.
