According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron 2 Somerset, Ky. woman have been arrested on shoplifting charges.
On February 23, 2025, at approximately 8:2o pm, while on patrol Sheriff Office Deputy Nick Bertram pulled into the Dollar General Store on East Kentucky Highway 92. When doing so he observed store employees standing outside of the store’s front doors. These employees started pointing to a passenger car that was attempting to leave the parking lot and stated the woman inside had just pushed two shopping carts of merchandise out of the store without paying. Deputy Bertram then approached the passenger car and observed several items of merchandise in the back seat. Deputy Bertram retrieved those items and returned them to the store employees. One of the females stated she had taken the items because her children was hungry, and she did not have any money to buy them food. The merchandise did include some food items but also included towels, rugs, brake fluid, framed artwork, etc. Store employees scanned the stolen merchandise which totaled $520.91.
Deputy Bertram and Deputy Jerry Meadows charged and arrested both Karea D. Kelly and Tabitha A. Decker, of Somerset, KY. for theft by unlawful taking or disposition-shoplifting ($500.00 but less than $1,000.00.
Kelley and Decker were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
In a separate shoplifting incident, which occurred back on February 11, 2025, at the same Dollar General Store a Monticello, KY. female entered the store and went straight to a cold drink cooler. The stores surveillance cameras showed the female got a 20-ounce Coke-A-Cola bottle out of the cooler then walked into a separate isle. Approximately three seconds later the female started exiting the store and appeared to be concealing something in her coat to the store employee. The store employee then checked the isle to see if the female had laid down the drink however, no drink was found.
After reviewing the surveillance camera footage and interviewing the store employee Deputy Valis Smedley applied for and received a Wayne County District Court Complaint Warrant of Arrest for a Sara Miller. On February 22, 2025, Deputy Smedley arrested Sara Miller of Monticello, KY. on the Complaint Warrant of Arrest for theft by unlawful taking or disposition shoplifting.
Miller was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
In a separate incident the Wayne County Sheriff Office also arrested Arlene Roberts of Monticello, KY. on a Wayne County District Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to appear for a Pre-Trial Conference on the underlying charges of assault-4th degree (domestic violence), terroristic threatening-3rd degree, resisting arrest and 2 counts of failure to appear.
Roberts was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
