Fiscal Court Meets and says Don’t move the Doughboy

The Wayne County Fiscal Court met Thursday night for their regular monthly meeting.

Among other items the court voted on the Doughboy movement. The state transportation cabinet spoke with over 200 citizens last month on options to relocate E-92 building a turnabout that could move the statue or keep in the same spot by sacrificing parking for downtown business or leave things as is.  The vote last night was one of strong support to not move the 102-year-old war memorial.

The motion was made to choose the “No Build “option which means the doughboy would be left alone and not be moved along with protecting the parking of the small businesses downtown. The motion carried by a 3 to 1 abstain
Magistrate Ronnie Turner- No Build, do not move
Magistrate Jeff Dishman- No Build, do not move
Magistrate Wade Dick- Abstained from the vote
Magistrate Jonathan Dobbs- No Build, do not move

The action will be forwarded to the State Transportation Department for their consideration, as of right now there is no timetable set for them to make a determination.
