(WKYT) – Update: Community members and law enforcement from across the commonwealth gathered Thursday in Columbia to honor fallen Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips.
Outside Kentucky State Police Post 15, Phillips was remembered for his service and sacrifice as his fellow troopers stood shoulder-to-shoulder in his honor.
Phillips served out of Post 3, but his roots were in Russell Springs, where he got his start.
Hometown friend pays respects
For hometown friend Taylor Hicks, making the trip was the only way to say thank you.
“Hayden was a good friend to everybody in Russell Springs. And he used to help me a lot. So, I am coming here to pay my respect to him and his family,” Hicks said.
Thursday’s candlelight vigil follows a week across the region. Phillips was shot and killed during a traffic stop on I-65 on Monday, leaving behind his wife, Jordan, and three young sons.
