(WDRB+WAVE/WKYT) — A 24-year-old Louisville woman faces multiple felony charges following a September collision that left two people dead in southwestern Jefferson County, according to court records.
Emma Perez was arrested Saturday and charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter in connection with the fatal crash.
According to an arrest citation filed by Louisville Metro Police, officers responded on the evening of Sept. 6 to a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle near the intersection of Greenbelt Highway and Greenwood Road.
Investigators determined Perez was traveling on Greenbelt Highway and turning left onto Greenwood Road at a high rate of speed when she failed to yield to oncoming traffic. Her vehicle struck a northbound motorcycle, ejecting both riders.
The motorcycle operator, Robert Smallwood, 64, and passenger Andrea Hill, 58, suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported to UofL Hospital, where both were later pronounced dead.
Detectives reported finding THC vape cartridges inside Perez’s vehicle following the crash.
Police executed a search warrant for blood and toxicology testing, with final analysis pending from the Kentucky State Police Forensic Laboratory.
Court records also note Perez was serving a conditionally discharged sentence from a prior conviction at the time of the crash.
Perez is being held at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections on a $500,000 full cash bond. She is scheduled for arraignment on Monday.
