(WKYT) — A new Safe Haven Baby Box will be unveiled at the Powell County Ambulance Service on Monday, Sept. 14.
Safe Haven Baby Boxes offer an anonymous infant surrender option for mothers in crisis who are unable to care for their newborns. The newest addition in Powell County marks the 470th Safe Haven Baby Box in the country and the 69th in Kentucky.
“We are the only organization providing complete anonymity,” Safe Haven Baby Boxes Founder Monica Kelsey said, “and we want these mothers to know we are there for them and their infant before and following a surrender.”
Safe Haven Baby Boxes said community members are encouraged to attend the unveiling and blessing ceremony at 11 a.m. on Monday to learn more about how the initiative helps protect vulnerable infants, as well as support parents who choose a safe, legal alternative in moments of crisis.
Following the Safe Haven Baby Box ceremony, Powell County EMS will host an open house event where people can tour ambulances, meet their EMS crew and tour the new EMS station.
