(WKYT) – A man was arrested in Franklin County last week in connection with a scam.
Rehankumar D. Mekvan is charged with engaging in organized crime, impersonating a peace officer, attempted theft by deception, obscuring the identity of a machine, tampering with physical evidence and failure to wear a seat belt.
Mekvan’s Sept. 3 arrest prevented a Franklin County resident from losing $235,000.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office advised residents that it will never call or demand money for missed court dates, jury duty or to avoid arrest.
Residents are also advised to watch for technology scams in which individuals claim to represent Microsoft, a computer operating system provider or a technical-support company.
