(WKYT) — The Georgetown Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run after a child was hit by a car on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Assistant Police Chief Josh Nash said the incident occurred around 7:08 a.m.
A school bus had stopped, and a vehicle ran the bus’s stop arm, hitting an elementary-age child who was crossing the road to get on the bus, according to Nash. The child was taken to the hospital.
Nash said the vehicle did not stop, and that police believe it was leaving the Scroggins Park area.
According to Nash, the vehicle was a dark, small-to-mid-sized SUV. Police said it was last seen traveling on Mt. Vernon Road toward Washington Square.

The vehicle might have front-end damage, according to police. Police advised people to not approach or confront anyone they believe may be involved.
Nash said anyone with information about the vehicle is asked to contact Georgetown police through the Tip 411 app, or they can leave an anonymous message with dispatch.
