(WKYT) — The family of Jordan Morgan will deliver victim impact statements at the final sentencing hearing for the man convicted in her death.
Shannon Gilday was found guilty but mentally ill on all six counts, including capital murder, three counts of attempted murder, first-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief, following a 2022 home invasion where Jordan was shot and killed.
A jury recommended life in prison with a chance of parole after 25 years, as well as an additional 17 years in prison for Gilday’s non-murder charges. Factoring in time served, Gilday could become eligible for parole after 21 years.
While Jordan’s family respects the judicial process and appreciates the hard work of the prosecution team, law enforcement and the jury, they have said that they feel the recommended sentence does not reflect the magnitude of Gilday’s crimes and the loss of Jordan’s life.
A judge will enter a final sentencing judgement during a hearing on Friday, Aug. 14, at 9 a.m. During Friday’s proceedings, Jordan’s family will deliver victim impact statements before the court.
A special memorial event is also scheduled for Aug. 28 in Lexington, being held on what would have been Jordan’s birthday.
