(WKYT) – Kentucky’s Attorney General Russell Coleman is asking the commonwealth’s appellate courts to uphold the convictions of two men who were sentenced for their involvement in the disappearance and death of Crystal Rogers.
Steve Lawson, 55, and Joey Lawson, 35, were both separately convicted of conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence.
Joey Lawson appealed his 25-year sentence in April.
Steve Lawson appealed his 17-year sentence in May.
In response to the filings, Coleman filed a brief of his own in support of the evidence that led to both men being convicted.
“The convictions of these men brought long-awaited accountability and justice to the Rogers and Ballard families, after nearly a decade of waiting,” Coleman said. “The defendants can no longer evade justice.”
Rogers, a Bardstown mother of five, has not been seen alive in over a decade.
Brook Houcks, who was dating her at the time of her disappearance, was convicted of her murder.
