(WKYT) – Archie Goodwin scored a game-high 28 points to power La Familia, the Kentucky alumni team, to a 78-65 victory over Kansas alumni squad JHX Hoops on Wednesday night at Memorial Coliseum.
With the win, La Familia claimed the alumni bracket crown of The Basketball Tournament (TBT) and advanced to Sunday’s $2 million winner-take-all championship game.
Goodwin shot 9-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-10 from 3-point range, to spearhead the offensive effort. Darryl Morsell and Willie Cauley-Stein added 10 points apiece for La Familia, while Chris Coffey chipped in nine.
JHX Hoops held an early 8-4 lead in the opening quarter before La Familia took control. The Kentucky alumni built a 12-point lead in the second quarter and extended the margin to 21 points in the third.
Entering the Elam Ending trailing 69-53, JHX Hoops faced a target score of 78. Goodwin opened the final stretch with a bank shot before back-to-back layups from Cauley-Stein brought La Familia within one point of the victory. After missing two free throws, Goodwin redeemed himself on the ensuing possession, sinking a turnaround baseline jumper to seal the win.
La Familia will face the winner of the matchup between Davis Steel and The Mecca in the TBT championship game.
The title game is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. EDT at Memorial Coliseum.
