Federal court dismisses DOJ attempt to obtain Kentucky voter rolls

(WKYT) – A federal court dismissed a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice regarding Kentucky’s failure to produce its voter registration list, according to Secretary of State Michael Adams in a social media post.

The suit was filed in February after the secretary of state’s office refused to produce the commonwealth’s voter rolls upon request in 2025.

The DOJ argued that the action was intended to ensure transparency and secure elections nationwide.

Adams argued that doing so would expose voters’ personal information such as their full names, dates of birth, addresses, driver’s license numbers and partial Social Security numbers.

He said in his social media post that Kentucky’s elections are secure, as is its citizens’ personal information.
