Casey County Man Drowns at Lake Cumberland

A Casey County man drowned Wednesday afternoon while swimming in a creek connected to Lake Cumberland. According to information released by the Russell County Coroner’s Office and local law enforcement, the victim—identified as 28‑year‑old Joshua Tyler Wethington of Casey County—was swimming with friends in the Caney Fork Creek area on July 15, 2026 when he went under the water and did not resurface. Friends pulled him from the water and attempted lifesaving measures until first responders arrived.  The coroner pronounced Wethington deceased at the scene. The incident remains under review, but authorities say no foul play is suspected.
