(WKYT) – A project designed to provide relief to a Kentucky community facing a water crisis is underway.
The city of Liberty said on Wednesday that crews are working to fuse and lay the pipe that will bring water from the Green River to Lake Liberty.
Plans were approved for the 8,000-foot pipeline in late June, and city officials say it will hopefully bring in hundreds of thousands of gallons of water per day to the parched lake.
The city mandated emergency water restrictions in mid-June as lake levels dropped to dangerous levels due to drought and increased use.
According to the city, conservation efforts led to the water system’s output dropping to 800,000 gallons this week.
