(WKYT) – Members of the Kentucky Department of Education’s Superintendents Advisory Council are addressing uncertainty surrounding college admissions exams.
It comes after lawmakers passed Senate Bill 197 during the legislative session. The bill requires the state to re-bid its contract for the exams. Kentucky currently was under a contract with the SAT.
But for students this upcoming school year, it is unclear if they could be taking the ACT or SAT.
“This puts everyone a little bit at unease because your students are going to start next year not knowing which of the two assessments are going to be used, or maybe there’s a third that we’re not aware of that may be out there,” said Kentucky Education Commissioner Robbie Fletcher.
Fletcher said the KDE is working with the Council on Postsecondary Education through the bidding process. The process is being overseen by the Finance Cabinet. Officials said a contract could be complete by October at the earliest.
