(WKYT) – Two weeks after a gunman walked into the US Bank in Berea and killed two employees, the community came together for a benefit night to raise money for those affected by the tragedy.
Breanna Edwards, 35, and Brian Switzer, 42, were shot at the bank on Chestnut Street. Two of their co-workers witnessed the shooting.
A memorial has been set up outside the bank with flowers and crosses for both Switzer and Edwards.
People gathered at the Madison County Fairgrounds for the Berea Strong Benefit Night and silent auction. Heather Federer and Ricky Clontz, two of the Berea business owners who helped organize the event, said other businesses and community members donated 100 percent of the auction items.
“As a small business, each one of us has a part of US Bank. We shop there daily and it was personal, we thought we oughta give back. This is family,” Clontz said.
Organizers said the proceeds from the auction will be split evenly among the four families impacted by the tragedy.
“When I say donations, I mean 20 dollars with a prayer in Berea that means a lot to these families, and that’s what we’re trying to pass on,” Clontz said.
Kyra Napier, one of the bidders, said it was important to bid on at least a few items.
“Wanting to put my name down, whether I get it or not, whether it’s something I need or not, just for these families that we know and that we love and that are affected,” Napier said.
According to the US Bank’s website, the Berea location is still closed following the shooting.
