(WKYT) – State health officials are in the process of shutting down a southern Kentucky long-term care facility for adults.
The investigation centers around the Dishman Personal Care Center and Home in Wayne County. People who used to work there say conditions for dozens of adults were horrible.
Laura Gray says she only worked there for just 8 days.
“There were roaches everywhere,” Gray said.
Gray says the facility had insect infestations and residents had lice problems.
“They cut all her hair off and put a bag like a hairnet over her head. She had sores like a half inch in her scalp.”
State health cabinet leaders will hold a hearing this morning at the Wayne County Judicial Center. Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack and others are expected to discuss legal documents that detail cases of adults living in perilous conditions.
The documents state that Dishman has failed to take steps to protect its residents. Gray says she worked as a housekeeper but was told to perform tasks she feared were illegal.
“Within eight days I was there there were several Percocets, hydrocodone, Valiums, that were just gone,” Gray said.
She says there was sexual activity among residents and was told to let them drink alcohol when she knew it wasn’t appropriate.
“I was threatened numerous times. I am not scared,” Gray said.
Multiple messages left for Dishman’s administrator were not returned.
