(WKYT) – A man was arrested after deputies say a burglary left a homeowner dead.
Timothy Mitchell is facing a list of charges according to police:
- Murder
- Burglary (first degree)
- Possession of burglary tools
- Public intoxication
Around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, the sheriff’s office said they were dispatched to Ruddles Mill Road for a burglary in progress.
According to an arrest citation, deputies were told the suspect was being held in the garage outbuilding while on the way to the scene, and were also advised that the owner of the property had been assaulted.
The homeowner, who did not know Mitchell, reportedly found him inside his home and a physical altercation ensued.
The Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office said the homeowner was lying on the ground unresponsive when deputies arrived and that lifesaving measures were unsuccessful.
Deputies say upon arrival Mitchell crawled out from the building and was detained. Police say they found multiple fireworks, two pry bars and a backpack containing a battery hand drill after searching Mitchell.
Mitchell is being held at the Bourbon County Detention Center, and will be arraigned in the Bourbon County District Court at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
