South Kentucky RECC members will see higher electric bills beginning May 1 following a rate adjustment approved by the Kentucky Public Service Commission for East Kentucky Power Cooperative, the wholesale power provider for the cooperative.
The PSC approved a 5.98 percent revenue increase for East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC), its first rate adjustment since 2021. Because South Kentucky RECC purchases all of its electricity from EKPC, the increase will be passed directly to members as allowed under Kentucky law.
According to information released by South Kentucky RECC, the change will result in an average increase of a little over six dollars per month for residential members. The adjustment reflects the higher wholesale cost of power and is consistent with impacts reported across EKPC’s 89‑county service area, where customers are expected to see roughly a five‑dollar monthly increase.
EKPC cited rising costs for equipment such as transformers, poles, and wire, along with ongoing investments in generation and system reliability, as factors contributing to the need for additional revenue.
The new rates take effect May 1, 2026.
