(WKYT) – A 40-year-old Laurel County man is in custody following a barricade situation Monday evening.
Deputies from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence on Starr Hill Road in the East Bernstadt community around 6:01 p.m. regarding a tip about an individual wanted on a probation violation for a felony offense.
Once on the scene, deputies determined that the person inside the residence, identified as Sammy Bowling, refused to leave.
The Laurel County Special Response team was brought on scene after deputies were unable to determine if Bowling was armed.
After two hours of negotiation Bowling surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody.
Bowling is charged with probation violation regarding possession of a controlled substance – first degree, first offense – and two counts of failure to appear in court for child support.
He is currently lodged at the Laurel County Correctional Center.
