Cards Secure Win Against Anderson County

The Wayne County Varsity Cardinals were victorious against Anderson County 5 – 3 on Thursday.

Wayne County was the first to get on the board in the first when Cooper Stockton singled, scoring one run. 

Anderson County took the lead, 3 – 1 , in the top of the second thanks to singles by Daniel Unthank, and Blake Lowe. 

The Cards jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the third inning after Dylan Turner grounded out, and Landon Denney singled down the left field line, each scoring one run. 

Palmer Smith earned the win for the Wayne County Cardinals. The hurler surrendered six hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking two. Landry Sharp took the loss for Anderson County. The hurler went five innings, surrendering five runs ( three earned) on nine hits, striking out five and walking three. 

The Cardinals collected nine hits in the game. Dawson Pyles went 2 for 4 at the plate to lead the Cards in hits. Denney, Stockton, Gage Gregory, and Turner each drove in one run for Wayne County. Caleb Sargent stole two bases, and Wayne County ran wild on the base paths, amassing four stolen bases for the game. 

Unthank and Lowe were a force together in the lineup, as each collected two hits for Anderson County. Unthank led Anderson County with two runs batted in. The infielder went 2 for 4 on the day.
