Blue Grass Airport president speaks on major terminal expansion

(WKYT) – Blue Grass Airport President Eric Frankl outlined the next steps for a major terminal expansion at the Lexington airport.

Crews are working on a long-term project to modernize the terminal, add gates and improve passenger amenities, according to Frankl.

Frankl said last year, crews also started work on new parking, road upgrades and a relocated cell phone lot.

“Our terminal, originally built in 1976 and added on probably three or four times since then, no longer has the capacity to meet the demand both currently and in the future,” Frankl said. “We embarked on this road to redevelop our terminal, expand our terminal, add more gates.”

Much of the work on the project will be done in phases, according to Blue Grass Airport, in order to minimize disruption for travelers.

More visible changes inside the terminal are expected to ramp up over the next few years.
