(WBKO/WKYT) — A Glasgow woman and her unborn child died after a shooting Monday afternoon.
Ava Woodcock, 22, died Tuesday afternoon at a Louisville hospital, according to Glasgow Police Department. She had been in critical condition since the shooting, and her child died shortly after the incident.
Brandon L. Bond, 24, was arrested and is charged with murder (domestic violence), first-degree fetal homicide, and first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot. His charges were upgraded after Woodcock and the child’s deaths.
Investigators say the shooting unfolded when the victim reportedly pulled into the parking lot of Annie’s Restaurant on Cleveland Avenue and sounded her horn. Police say Bond then crossed Cleveland Avenue and opened fire while she was inside her vehicle.
Officials say the circumstances leading up to the confrontation remain under investigation.
After being shot, the victim’s vehicle continued moving before crashing. Police say there are conflicting accounts as to whether she remained inside the vehicle or exited after being shot.
Bond fled the scene and was later located in a wooded area behind a nearby recycling company.
Authorities say Bond had been drinking alcohol throughout the day and was “very uncooperative” after being taken into custody. Jail officials confirmed he had to be restrained and housed separately overnight but has since calmed down.
Bond is expected to appear for arraignment on Wednesday in Barren District Court.
An investigation remains ongoing. Detective Brian Starnes executed the citation and charges Tuesday afternoon.
