One person killed in Hal Rogers Parkway crash

(WYMT) – (Update – 10:00 p.m.): We have learned the names of those involved in a deadly motorcycle crash near the Clay-Leslie County line.

State Police say Sam Minton, 43, of Manchester lost control of his motorcycle and hit a guardrail.

He was flown to the University of Kentucky Hospital and is in stable condition.

A passenger on the motorcycle, Shelly Minton, 46, of Manchester, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither were wearing a helmet.

(Update – 6:45 p.m.): Officials with Clay County 911 said on social media the portion of the parkway that was impacted by the crash is now open.

 

(Original story): One person has died in a crash involving a motorcycle on the Hal Rogers Parkway.

The Clay Co. coroner told WYMT the passenger was killed.

The person’s name was not released.

The condition of the person driving motorcycle is not known, the coroner told WYMT.

According to Leslie Co. 911 officials, the crash happened between mile markers 32 and 33.

Officials said that the crash caused for that section of the parkway to be shut down.

Traffic heading west was being rerouted onto the Hyden Spur and onto Highway 421 going toward Clay County.

Officials said they expected the road to be closed for at least a couple of hours.
