(WKYT) – The Kentucky General Assembly passed a bill that would create new licensure for concealed carrying firearms and deadly weapons.
Under House Bill 312, those between 18 and 20-years-old could obtain a provisional license, as opposed to a standard license, which would allow them to conceal carry firearms, ammunition and other deadly weapons.
Currently, people in Kentucky must be at least 21-years-old to receive a standard concealed carry license.
According to the bill’s language, those with provisional licenses may apply for a standard license once they are at least 21-years-old, by filling out a paper application with their county’s sheriff’s office, or an electronic application with Kentucky State Police.
HB 312 passed the Senate 30-7 on Friday, March 20, having already passed the House 73-17.
The bill is now set to head to Gov. Andy Beshear’s desk.
