(WAVE/WKYT) – The Shelbyville Police Department said its K-9s Titan and Rocket will receive bullet- and stab-resistant vests through a donation from Vested Interest in K9s Inc., a nonprofit organization.
The department said the vests were sponsored by Tili and Colin Findley of Orlando, Florida, and will be embroidered with the message, “Honoring those who served and sacrificed.” Delivery is expected within about 10 weeks.
Vested Interest in K9s Inc., founded in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity that provides protective vests and other assistance for law enforcement dogs nationwide. The organization says the vests are U.S.-made, custom-fitted, and certified by the National Institute of Justice.
The nonprofit said it has provided more than 6,348 vests valued at $6.9 million to K-9s in all 50 states, funded by private and corporate donations. The organization says its program is open to U.S. law enforcement dogs that are at least 20 months old, actively employed and certified, including dogs with expired vests.
