Sheriff Bobby Jones reports the indictment of a Somerset man in connection with a collision that occurred at the intersection of Oak Hill Road and Ferry Road.
The collision occurred on November 26 of this past year when a Honda Odyssey, driven by Kyle Garrett, 41, struck a BMW SUV, ran the stop sign at Ferry Road, crossed Oak Hill Road, and then struck a fence. Garrett then exited the Honda Odyssey and started walking away, attempting to flee the scene of the collision. Burnside Police Department Officer Matt Brown, who lives nearby, witnessed Garrett leaving the scene. Officer Brown then observed Garrett start to run down Ferry Road. Officer Brown apprehended Garrett.
A few moments after Officer Brown arrived on scene, Lieutenant Richard Smith with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the collision. It was determined that Garrett was driving on a suspended license. Deputy Grant Bryant arrived and observed that Garrett appeared to be under the influence of alcoholic beverages. Deputy Bryant found empty alcohol containers in Garrett’s vehicle. Deputy Bryant then interviewed another person on the scene who told him that a few moments prior to the collision, Garrett had almost struck their vehicle after encroaching into their lane of travel. Deputy Bryant also spoke with the owner of the Honda Odyssey, who told Deputy Bryant that Garrett did not have permission to use the vehicle.
Deputy Bryant then placed Garrett under arrest, charging him with Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree, DUI, Disregarding Stop Sign, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Fleeing or Evading Police in the Second Degree, and Operating on a Suspended/Revoked Operator’s License. Garrett was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center, where he bonded out on a $30,000 property bond on December 2nd.
On March 4, Dep. Bryant presented the information to the Pulaski Grand Jury, who returned an indictment against Garrett for the same offenses. Garrett was arrested on the indictment warrant on March 9th and bonded out the same day on a $30,000 cash bond.
Deputy Bryant was assisted by Lt. Richard Smith, Deputy Dylan West, and Burnside Officers Matt Brown, Stewart Russell, and Zachary Mayfield.
