(WYMT) – Special Judge Christopher Cohron has denied a motion asking him to step down from the high-profile murder case against former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines.
Stines is accused of killing District Judge Kevin Mullins in September, 2024.
Defense attorneys sought a new judge after claiming Cohron and Mullins sat next to each other at a judicial conference just days before Mullins was killed.
Judge Cohron denied the recusal motion and will remain on the case.
It is not known if Stines’ attorneys will appeal the ruling.
