(WKYT) – Kentucky lawmakers have filed a bill to exempt the state from daylight saving time.
House Bill 368, first introduced Jan. 14, would require Kentucky to observe the standard time of the United States year-round, and if passed, the bill would go into effect Oct. 21, 2026.
The bill is sponsored by Rep. Steven Doan, Rep. Josh Colloway, Rep. Kim Banta, Rep. Emily Callaway, Rep. John Hodgson, Rep. Marianne Proctor and Rep. T.J. Roberts.
States are allowed to choose to stay on standard time under federal law, but cannot switch to permanent daylight saving time without approval from Congress. Currently, Hawaii and most of Arizona do not observe daylight saving time.
In recent years, lawmakers have introduced several bills similar to HB 368, but none made it through the general assembly.
