(WYMT) – The Perry County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a murder after a man was found dead Tuesday morning.
Police investigating possible homicide in Perry County
At approximately 10 a.m., Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle said they were called to an altercation at the Bubby Combs apartment building near 15 Darfork Road.
When deputies arrived, Sheriff Engle said one man was found with a gunshot wound to his chest area.
The victim has been identified as Ryan Huff.
Donnie Napier, a resident at the apartment building, said he heard what sounded like loud arguing coming from outside his window.
“I was just playing on the phone and I heard one shot. I got up and looked out the front window. I seen him laying here,“ Napier said.
Huff was found dead behind Napier’s car.
“So then I came down the steps and I’m CPR certified. So I was going to do CPR. When I got down here, I listened for a breath and tried to get a pulse. There’s nothing. He was already gone,” he added.
Sheriff Engle said there is a warrant for murder against Danny Harold Asher who has an alias of “Blue”. His last known address was in Bonnyman.
If you know where Asher is, you should call 911 and not approach him.
Sheriff Engle believes others are involved and could also face charges.
Officials and residents of the building said nobody involved in the incident lived in the apartments, but they were known to hang around the area.
As of Tuesday, the motive behind the shooting is unknown. Officials believe the victim and suspects knew each other.
“I don’t care what that boy did. He didn’t deserve that. Nobody deserves to be gunned down like that,” Napier said.
Deputies, Kentucky State Police and Hazard City Police said they have been actively searching for suspects in multiple areas, and have received a few tips.
“We responded up to the Dollar General in Happy and we just had missed them. We looked on the surveillance video and did verify that they had just been there at the Dollar Store,” Sheriff Engle said.
R.W Combs Elementary School was on a short lockdown due to the search on Tuesday, according to Perry County Schools.
Sheriff Engle said Asher should be considered armed and dangerous, but they have no reason to believe those involved would try and hurt anyone else.
Investigators said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved.
