Quick actions by the newly hired Monticello Fire Chief Kody Ragan saved a man’s life on Sunday morning. Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Tennessee Ave with one resident still inside the smoke filled house. Chief Ragan was able to access the elderly man and bring him out of the structure as units were getting on scene. A quick response and attack of the fire by Monticello firefighters contained the fire damage to one room of the structure. The elderly man was treated at the scene by Wayne County EMS and transported to the hospital for further treatment. This was the first fire call for the newly hired Chief Ragan.
