Rain overnight may have helped with the fires, but crews worked long hours in an attempt to get it contained.
Here was an update before the rains moved in:
Large wildfires continue to burn on the Edwards Mountain side, now spreading in the Harmon Hollow area.
• Response teams: Forestry Service Wildland Firefighters are actively on the ground.
• Equipment deployed: Bulldozers are working to contain the fire lines.
• Livestock safety: If you have livestock, please be prepared to move them from the fields to safer areas.
• Health advisory: If you have respiratory issues, please remain indoors to avoid smoke exposure.
• Community request: Please keep our crews and neighbors in your thoughts and prayers for rain and safety.
Stay alert, follow official guidance, and avoid the affected areas to allow emergency responders to work.
Preparedness and Evacuation
Defensible Space Create and maintain defensible space around your home by keeping grass and weeds cut low, removing dead vegetation, and cleaning gutters to help protect your property and aid firefighters.
Have a Plan Develop a family emergency plan, including communication methods, meeting points, and designated evacuation routes.
Evacuation Kit Prepare a “go bag” or emergency supply kit with essentials such as water, non-perishable food, medications, important documents, flashlights, and extra clothes.
The 5 Ps of Evacuation To quickly gather essential items during an evacuation, remember the “Five Ps”: People, Prescriptions, Papers, Personal Needs, and Priceless items.
Stay Informed Pay attention to local news, red flag warnings, and real-time fire information from resources like wildfire.gov. If a wildfire is imminent, evacuate immediately without waiting for an official order to avoid traffic and reach safety sooner.
