According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron on August 6, 2025, an active school shooter training was held at the Wayne County High School. The training was conducted by the Sheriff Office’s Firearm Instructors, Deputies Tommy Spencer and Joe Horne. Both Deputies are trained in the most up to date techniques in responding to and reacting to active school shooters that’s being taught by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council Police Academy at this time. All of Wayne County High School Teachers and Administrative Staff were given a presentation by the instructors before a practical training session on how they should react during this type of incident. The teachers and staff also observed the Sheriff Office Deputies during their practical training session at the High School building.
Sheriff Catron and his staff would especially like to thank Wayne County High School Principal Renee Kennett, Technology Center Principal John Kinnett and each of the teachers for caring enough in attending.
