Fiscal Court Hears Request to Increase Dispatcher Pay

The Wayne County Fiscal Court met Thursday for their March meeting, during which representatives from the local 911 dispatch address the judge and magistrates regarding pay.  The local dispatch has lost 18 workes over the past few years as individuals have left seeking higher pay elsewhere.  A look at pay from surrounding counties show Wayne County near the bottom.  The court was told that several counties had made increases to pay and generated the revenue by increasing property taxes $4 per month which would be a yearly increase of $48. The judge stated budget crunching for the 25-26 fiscal year will begin to be looked at next month and he invited the 911 board to get him their budget early for a closer look.

The County agreed to an emergency adoption for the road department so three trucks could be purchased without the bidding process at a cost of $48,000.  The department has multiple trucks that are not in service due to needing repairs, and it was noted the fleet is aging.
