According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron a Monticello man has been arrested while Deputy Barnett was conducting an investigation into a theft of an electric bicycle.
On December 31, 2024, at approximately 11:50 am, Deputy Barnett went to a residence located on Prime Rose Lane to interview a male subject with possible information in reference to the theft. When Deputy Barnett arrived at the residence he observed the male walking away into a wooden area. The male failed to follow Deputy Barnetts commands to stop, and while he was being told he had active arrest warrants. Deputy Barnett was unable to locate the male at that time.
Later, at approximately 3:40 pm, Deputy Barnett and Deputy Valis Smedley observed a vehicle belonging to the same male subject at a residence on Hot Rod Drive. This vehicle then started leaving this residence with a female driver. Deputy Barnett noticed a male subject wearing the same type clothing as the earlier subject from the Prime Rose Lane residence had been standing beside the vehicle. Deputy Barnett again gave the male subject verbal commands to stop. The male failed to follow Deputy Barnetts commands to stop. The male was then taken to the ground and while attempting to place handcuffs on the male he continued to resist Deputy Barnetts commands to stop resisting. Deputy Barnett was able to place handcuffs on the male.
