On Thursday afternoon, 41 elementary, middle, and high school students participated in “Shop with a Hero” at Walmart in Monticello.
Community support for this year’s event has been amazing, resulting in each student being allotted $200 for a Christmas shopping spree accompanied by First-Responders, Walmart associates or staff from the school’s Youth Service Centers.
Additionally, $1,120 was donated to the Wayne County Schools’ Backpack Program which provides food for students during weekends and other times school is not in session.
This was a collaborative effort between Walmart, Monticello Police Department, Monticello Fire Department, Wayne County EMS and the Family Resource/Youth Service Centers of the Wayne County School District.
Neither the “Shop with a Hero” event nor the donation to the backpack program would have been possible without the support of our community!
