Two Tennessee individuals have been arrested on drug and firearm Charges.

On September 4, 2024, at approximately 10 pm Wayne County Sheriff Office Deputy Valis Smedley conducted a vehicle traffic stop on Michigan Avenue in the city limits of Monticello for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with a female driver Deputy Smedley conducted an operator’s license status. This status check revealed that her Tennessee operator’s license was suspended for a driving under the influence charge in that state. The driver gave consent to a search of the vehicle. The search was conducted by Deputy Smedley and Deputy Brad Tucker which resulted in 3 glass smoking pipes commonly used in illegal narcotic use with each containing a white substance believed to be methamphetamine and a Ruger 9mm handgun being located and seized. Criminal background checks on both the driver and passenger revealed that both were convicted felons.

Deputy Smedley charged and arrested Tamara L. Rasnick of Duff, TN. for driving on a driving under the influence suspended operator’s license, possession of a controlled substance-1st degree (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, failure to produce an insurance card and the traffic violation of having one headlight.

Deputy Smedley also arrested Michael F. Burns of Duff, TN. for possession of a controlled substance-1st degree (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

The Wayne County Sheriff Office also arrested the following.

Juan Flores of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County Distr5ict Court Complaint Warrant of Arrest for assault-4th degree.

Michael S. Borden of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Russell County District Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to appear on the underlying charges of failure of owner to maintain required insurance and traffic violations.

Flores and Borden were released from custody after posting a Bond.
