Thursday marked the 2nd consecutive day our temperatures rose to the hottest of the year. The local mesonet recorded a high temperature of 96 degrees with a heat index (also the hottest of the year) at 106. The national weather service has issued the following special weather statement for today:
High pressure will stay strong over the area for one last day allowing for near record high temperatures and sticky humidity levels. As a result, many locations will see heat indices peaking in the 100 to 105 degree range for a brief time this afternoon. Take precautions if outside for extended periods of time by wearing loose fitting and light colored clothes, having frequent breaks, and drinking plenty of water. Be sure to extend this extra attention to the heat impacts for any outdoor pets and livestock.
