Law enforcement officers in Kentucky are required to complete 40 hours of Kentucky Law Enforcement Council certified continuing education classes every year to maintain their certification.
KLEC is the governing body overseeing certification for curriculum, instructors, and police academies.
The Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training offers more than 200 in-service classes in approximately 90 different course areas each year that encompass a wide variety of topics from which to choose. Those topics include Firearms, Vehicle Operations, Patrol Procedures, Investigations, Tactical, Leadership, Legal and Defensive Tactics.
Many factors are considered when selecting a training course for your Monticello Police Officers including course topic, current department and officer needs, location of training, lodging/meal costs if any, time of year, etc.
Thus far for 2024, your Monticello Police Officers have successfully completed more than 200 hours of certified law enforcement training including: Current Leadership Issues (Major Asberry), Horizons in Policing (Officer Bertram), Drug Investigative Techniques (Officer Lang) and Crisis Intervention Team Training for Law Enforcement (Sgt. Smith). MPD personnel have also completed mandatory training in Emergency Vehicle Operations and Domestic Violence-Interpersonal Crimes.
Additionally, MPD officers participate in non-mandatory, monthly on-line training which also covers numerous topics such as TikTok and Snapchat Investigations, Probable Cause & Reasonable Suspicion, Search & Seizure: Exigent Circumstances, to name only a few.
Courses scheduled for later in the year include Personal Crimes (Officer Thompson & Officer Neal) and Police Executive Command (Chief Hoover).
