Monticello Bank would like to make our customers aware of a new “Jewelry Scam” that has already been seen making its way into our area.
There have been reports of individuals receiving a package via USPS containing a “free ring”, a pamphlet, and a warranty card with a QR code that you can scan to “register for your free lifetime warranty” on this piece of jewelry.
Please be advised that when scanned, this QR code will download a remote malware software onto your phone allowing scammers to control your device and access all downloaded apps. This could grant scammers access to your mobile banking app which will result in an account takeover.
Should you receive one of these packages, do not scan the included QR code. If you have received one of these and have scanned the included QR code, please reach out to your local branch immediately.
