Prisoner in McCreary County receives additional sentence for Stabbing

A federal prisoner housed in McCreary County has been ordered to serve nearly two more decades behind bars after attacking his cellmate. According to court records, 42‑year‑old Mufid Elfgeeh was sentenced to an additional 19 years in federal prison following the stabbing incident. Officials said Elfgeeh had previously asked to be moved to a private cell but that request was denied before the assault occurred.

Elfgeeh was already serving a more than 20‑year sentence imposed in 2016 for attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq, a group designated as a terrorist organization responsible for widespread violence and human rights abuses.

He will remain in federal custody under the new sentence.
