New ornament unveiled honoring cancer survivors in Kentucky Oaks Survivors Parade

(WAVE/WKYT) – Breast cancer survivors, including guests of this year’s Kentucky Oaks Survivors’ Parade, got to preview a new special ornament honoring their strength.

Guests of this year’s Kentucky Oaks Survivors’ Parade got to preview a new special ornament...

Cartwheels hosted the event that debuted the ornaments that were designed by Heather French Henry. Proceeds will benefit Horses and Hope, a project of the Kentucky Cancer Program at the University of Louisville that focuses on screening and referrals statewide.

Designer Henry says supporting those fighting the disease and uplifting them is important year-round.

“It’s not just about Derby time,” she said. “It’s all year long. We want them to celebrate themselves. We want them to share their stories, and we also want them to spread the word so that others know it’s important to go out there and get screened for breast cancer.”

Folks can still buy the ornament and contribute to the Kentucky Cancer Program online.
