According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron an Alpha, KY. man has been arrested for a felony assault after an altercation at an Alpha area convenient type store.
On July 1,2025, at approximately 5:26 pm Wayne County Sheriff Office Deputies Valis Smedley and Zachary Bybee were dispatched to the convenient store for the assault complaint by the Wayne County Dispatch Center.
Upon arrival Deputies learned that the victim had entered the store and approached the arrestee about not to be on his property and to stop harassing him. The arrestee then struck the victim with his fist in the jaw area, knocking him to the floor, then continued striking him in his face with his fist. The video of the incident has been obtained. The victim stated his jaw was broken but refused medical treatment from the Wayne County Emergency Medical Service and he would drive himself to seek medical treatment at a hospital.
Deputy Smedley charged and arrested Stephen J. Smith of Alpha, KY. for assault-2nd degree.
Smith was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

Jeffrey S. Smith of Monticello, KY. was arrested for driving on a driving under the influence suspended operator’s license and obstructed vision and/or windshield.
Randy Cooper of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County Circuit Court Warrant of Arrest for Probation Violation on the underlying charges of trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bradley Foster of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County Circuit Court Warrant of Arrest for Probation Violation on the underlying charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, 2 counts of wanton endangerment-1st degree and possession of a controlled substance-1st degree (methamphetamine).
Jason R. Jenkins OF Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Wayne County District Court Complaint Warrant of Arrest for assault-4th degree (domestic violence).
Tracy Adams, address unknown, was arrested on a Wayne County District Court Complaint Warrant of Arrest for being a fugitive from another state.
Joseph A. McDermott of Monticello, KY. was arrested on a Clinton County District Court Warrant of Arrest for a Bond Error on the underlying charge of theft by failure to make required disposition of property.
Smith, Cooper, Foster, Jenkins, Adams and McDermott were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
