Local Restaurant Tax is now in Place

If you find that eating out is a little bit more costly it may be due to the new restaurant tax that took effect Sunday, June 1st.  In April on a split vote the Monticello City Council approved the creation of a tourism committee with a director whose salary is estimated to be around $65,000 annually. In order to fund the position and receive money for various tourism related projects the council agreed to impose a 3% restaurant tax on gross receipts from local restaurants, coffee houses, cafeterias, and facilities.  The tax became effective (yesterday) June 1st.
