(not pictured: Abby West & Jaydon Crabtree)The Wayne County Board of Education held its regular meeting tonight, beginning with the call to order. Mr. Dishman took a moment to recognize the achievements of the WCHS Dance Team, celebrating their accomplishments this school year. In his superintendent’s report, Mr. Dishman announced that state testing is scheduled to commence on May 5th. He also noted the upcoming textbook adoption for the Science and Social Studies curriculum targeting Middle and High school students.
The board approved a request from Vicki Davis for an EF Tours trip during the Fall break of October 2026. Additionally, Mr. John Kinnett proposed applying for a grant from the HB-6 Secondary Area Technology Center Pool to construct a safety corridor between WCHS and WCATC and to install electronic locks on interior doors. This proposal received unanimous approval from the School Board members.
The board decided to table the discussion and approval of the BG1 Project, concerning the Davis Heirs Land Acquisition, for further deliberation until the next meeting. However, the board did approve the advertising for bids related to the Walker Early Learning Center Project.
For the school year 2025-2026, the board unanimously approved the Wayne County School Food Service Program. They also approved adding Justin Alley as a second signer to the school account. The board selected KSBA to conduct the search for a new superintendent.
