(WKYT) – A southern Kentucky man accused of trying to kill his mother and grandmother is claiming police arrested the wrong man.
Chase Jackson, 25, is in the Wayne County Jail after the shooting late Saturday night on Winchester Road near Monticello.
A woman, saying her son had just shot her in the head and arm, was still able to call 911. In tapes obtained by WKYT, Audrey Jackson, 50, is frantically asking for help, and telling dispatchers that Chase Jackson was the one who did the shooting.
Police say Jackson shot his mother and 94-year-old grandmother, then took off down Kentucky 90 where he was found and arrested. But from jail Jackson says he jumped out of a window when he heard someone else shooting.
“I get back in my room, the door flies back open, next thing I know, pow, pow he‘s at it again. I jump out the window, go up 90,” said Jackson.
Jackson was charged with attempted murder and assault. His mother and grandmother are both in critical condition. But he claims he’s not the shooter.
“Keep in mind that me and my mother, the one that said I shot her, and whatever. We got into an argument and whatever,” Jackson said.
Relatives say Jackson shot the two over an argument over the use of a car. They say he didn’t jump out of a window, the window is how he climbed into the home. They also say his mother and grandmother have helped him during his previous troubles with the law.
Three years ago Jackson stole a police car and he was chased from Monticello to Lexington.
“After that, I had like 15 cop cars, seven state troopers, three choppers on me. It was crazy,” he told WKYT Monday about the crime in November of 2021.
He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years, but was released for time served.
