Pedestrian killed after being hit by vehicle in Harlan County

(WKYT) – A person is dead after Kentucky State Police say he was hit by a vehicle on U.S. 119 along Sukey Ridge, just outside Harlan in the Baxter Community.

Kentucky State Police say the call came in shortly after 7:30 p.m. on October, 15th.

Troopers were notified that a man had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene. The vehicle and its operator were located a short distance away at Intermount Apartments.

Harlan County Coroner John Derrick Noe responded to the scene and pronounced a 60-year-old Harlan resident deceased from injuries at 8:05 pm.

Coroner Noe says preliminary reports show that the victim may have had some type of vehicle problems and had gotten out of his truck and then was struck by another vehicle, while parked partially off the roadway.

The Coroners office is not releasing the name of the victim until all immediate family members have been notified.

The driver of the other vehicle has been working with the police on this tragic accident. The investigation remains ongoing.
