(WAVE/WKYT) – Baptist Health is warning patients about a widespread phishing scam targeting users of the MyChart medical portal.
Hospital officials say they have received reports of fraudulent emails using MyChart’s name and branding.
The emails do not specifically mention Baptist Health, some patients have reported receiving them.
Baptist Health clarified that these emails are not affiliated with Baptist Health, Epic, or MyChart.
The phishing emails typically offer a free health kit, a free gift, or request that the recipient complete a survey.
Baptist Health advises anyone who receives one of these messages to take the following steps:
- Delete the email immediately without replying.
- Do not click on any links or open any attachments within the email.
- Do not share personal or financial information.
To access MyChart securely, patients should bypass email links entirely and use the official Baptist Health MyHealth app or navigate directly to mychart.baptisthealth.com.
How to Spot Phishing Attempts
Officials shared several tips to help patients identify potential email scams:
- Check the sender’s address: Official Baptist Health MyChart communications are sent only from
mychart-noreply@baptisthealth.com. - Look for errors: Scams often contain spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, or urgent requests.
- Inspect the entire message: Carefully review the sender, subject line, body text, and signature before taking action.
