Local leaders and community members gathered Wednesday morning, August 26, 2026, for the official groundbreaking of the A.J. Lloyd Project at 314 Albany Road in Monticello.
The ceremony, hosted by the City of Monticello, marked the start of a major development initiative honoring A.J. Lloyd’s legacy and commitment to the community.
Congressman Hal Rogers and State Representative Ken Upchurch were among the special guests who joined city officials and residents for the event. Both praised the project as a step forward for local growth and revitalization.
The ceremony began at 11:30 a.m. with remarks from city representatives, followed by the symbolic turning of the first shovels of dirt to officially launch construction.
Community members expressed excitement about the project’s potential impact on Monticello’s future, noting that it represents continued investment in the city’s infrastructure and heritage.
The event concluded with a reception and photo opportunities at the site.

- The A.J. Lloyd building is being renovated and repurposed into:

- The adjacent Project 606 Building, constructed in 1989 as an annex to A.J. Lloyd Middle School, will be transformed into a modern office facility expected to generate over 200 local jobs.

- The renovation is managed by Codell Construction Management and involves multiple engineering firms.
