(WKYT) – A London police officer faced disciplinary action after violating departmental protocol regarding road collisions, according to a statement from the city.
The officer, who was not named in the statement, let an individual leave the scene of a collision without conducting an adequate sobriety assessment in July.
After an internal investigation, city officials say that the protocol for assessing driver impairment was not followed.

The officer was suspended for three days without pay, demoted from corporal to patrolperson and required to participate in mandatory retraining for sobriety assessment.
City officials said in the statement that while they understand operational discretion is an essential part of policing, it is not a license to bypass mandatory safety procedures.
In the spirit of transparency, according to city officials, video and other related items to the incident are being released.
